Wow! Great piece of literary genius.
I truly enjoyed and appreciated the research invested in to this masterpiece.
The story draws you in and holds you captive to the very end.
Something for everyone! Romance, mystery, intrigue... You won't be able
To put it down. Two thumbs up!
How thrilled I was to read such a wonderful book. Really unique, informative to the hilt. Also, it was written with integrity
and draws you in to each individual character as they were so perfectly portrayed. This is a 'MUST READ' and will in hance
anyone's life who reads it, leaving you to want more!!!!!! It has everything.....romance, intrigue and mystery, enthralling
you to the very end! Enough cannot be said of the expertise the Author put into this story, giving so much of themselves and
seemingly putting their heart into it and, very possibly, putting their own life's experiences into it, as well. It warmed my heart and spirit.
I feel quite privileged to have it in my possession and will always treasure it. My congrats! 'Bravo' to the Author!!!!
This book was very very very awesome. so many twist and turns and action you just can't put it down. It is one of the greatest Medieval books to date. i would recommend this book to anyone. you really get to see what life was like in that time period and the dialog in which they spoke. I can't wait to see what comes next.
I really enjoyed the rich language of the times. The story itself is very evocative and complex. The narration easily puts
the reader in that time period. A historical epic! I'd read it over and over! A good find indeed. The relationship between the characters is very nuanced. It's easy to get the impression that one knows what is going on, but the story really does lead to a nail-biting conclusion. It's books like this that makes you wonder why so many people are not writing like this anymore. Well, at least I can say that The Second Portcullis has satisfied my literary need. Thanks K. L. Butters!
I just finished this novel and it will be sad to not be able to continue! Set in Medieval England, the book sets the tone right off the bat with a dubious act that entrenches the entire castle in a flurry of inquiry as to who is the author of said dubious deed! I enjoyed the romance of the protagonist and the entangled suspense/mystery surrounding. Detail is rich in this novel, and if your not as apt, it makes you privy to some facts of the era that you may not have known otherwise. I highly recommend this book to those who want to immerse themselves in Dark Age's England for a time.

The Second Portcullis is a colorful gem of a novel. I've always been drawn to medieval literature and wasn't disappointed by this well crafted undertaking.
I was immediately captivated by the rich characters such as Sir Malcolm with his misplaced sense of duty and loyalty to the cowardly Lord he serves. The rich descriptive language of the book is so detailed that you feel as if the author was briefly transported in time and came back to tell us of the adventure.
K.L. Butters mastery of the English language is apparent by the way she writes with the ease of someone who might have lived then.
The reader is taken on a murder mystery ride that will leave you in suspense until you turn the last page.
Great summer read!!
The author seems to have a fair knowledge of Medieval Scottish culture and life. The story is somewhat plausible. The characters are not. Two-dimensional, inconsistent, stock characters, and a lack of maturity and professionalism in the prose and content made this a painful read. Many words were misspelled and others were entirely inappropriate to the character or the situation, leading me to believe the author did not know their actual meaning. The usual counsel given to writers is, "Show it, don't say it." This author said it, repeatedly, extensively and clumsily. I do not wish to discourage her. By all means, keep writing, read continually, and improve! I suppose this work to be self-published, because no professional editor would have gotten past the first paragraph.
This was a wonderful book filled with suspense many twist, and turns sir Malcolm and lady Murdoch provide quick wit and a never ending adventure through mid evil times. I hope this will turn into a series.
